I am Lee Sexton and I am a teacher in the Owls class. My learning about early childhood education started when I became a parent. I was lucky that my daughter’s first experience in preschool was at a school that embraced the Reggio Emilia approach. I was attracted to the image of the child as a capable learner, the emphasis on natural materials and spaces, the concept that children and teachers are co-learners, and the value given to open-ended play. When we moved to Louisville and my son was three, I discovered Highland Presbyterian. I instantly fell in love with the school and have worked here ever since. I value the relationships I have developed over the years with families and with my colleagues.

I approach my days at HiHo with curiosity and joy. I love really seeing children— watching them explore and interact, listening to their ideas and conversations, and getting to know what makes each child unique. I also love the effect being seen has on children. It’s a special privilege to get down on the floor with them every day, modeling connectedness and empathy.

I have two grown children who are off having their own adventures. I live in the Highlands with my husband and cat, and enjoy hiking and playing tennis.
