My relationship with Highland Presbyterian Church Nursery & Weekday School began in 2002 when my oldest child entered the Kindergarten class. I knew I had found a school that valued children’s ideas, saw children as capable problem-solvers, and encouraged them to find their voices. My husband and I enrolled our other three children in the program and began to see the benefits of an environment that encourages empathy and compassion and allows children to co-construct their own early education by following their unique interests.
After completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Furman University, I began my professional work in the field of social work. Looking to continue my work with children and families and support them, I returned to graduate school at the University of Louisville to complete my master’s degree in teaching, with a concentration in special education. I taught for several years in the public school system, and in 2006, I accepted the director position of the Parents’ Day Out program at Highland Pres., which served young children, 0-4. Seven years later, the Parents’ Day Out and the Weekday School programs merged and I began co-directing the Nursery & Weekday School. I am grateful to have been an integral part of this supportive and nurturing environment for children, families and faculty.
When I’m not at school, you may find me outside, camping and hiking, singing, creating and reading, and traveling to visit my now adult children.
