“When children learn through inherently playful and enjoyable music-making, they may be naturally more motivated to learn, more willing to try new things, and more creative and imaginative. And, when given the opportunity to engage in unstructured instrument play or free dance, music can help children discover the intrinsic reward of self-directed exploration and experimentation.” -Anne Sailer & Lauren Guilmartin
“Blue bells, cockle shells, evy ivy over. Mother sent me to the store. This is what she sent me for. What did you buy at the store?”
“Kale and red cabbage, kale and red cabbage…”
Music enrichment with our music teacher, Ms. Makela this week was all about vegetables and creating original songs. The children, as always, embraced this in such beautiful ways. Many vegetables were offered, but this child was the only brave soul to select kale! We admired the way she decided to draw the kale, using the curly lines and beautiful colors of oil pastels. Once the drawings were finished, the children began to represent their songs on paper. Ms. Makela showed them what music looks like and away they went, writing their own songs.
