“Friends-giving” in the Twos

The 5 Day 2’s invited Kindergarten to come and have Thanksgiving Snack in our classroom. Ms. Dana made an invitation and the whole class signed it. The children were very excited to hear that they would attend.

When the Kindergartners arrived, we started with a question, “What is Thanksgiving?” One of the children told us, “It’s having family and being thankful together.”

Ms. Dana told us a few things she is thankful for: her warm house, her lovely teaching partner (a sentiment which is very much reciprocated by Ms. April), and her daughters. Some of the kindergartners shared what they are thankful for.

“People with pets.”

“My family and my dog named Sully.”

“My family and especially my house.”

“Pigs.”

“My family.”

Before going to the table we sang We Are Thankful as our blessing.

We are thankful, for the food we eat, We are thankful, for the friends we meet

We are thankful, for the golden sun, The trees, the birds, and everyone

For snack we had turkey, carrots, hummus, crackers and pretzels, with a choice of apple juice or water. Apple juice was the popular choice. Dessert was pumpkin pie with whipped cream and apple slices. More apples were consumed than pumpkin pie.

After snack we sang Ms. Dana’s original tune, Five Little Turkeys, and listened to Bear Says Thanks by Karma Wilson. It was a lovely Friends-giving for the 5 Day 2’s and the Kindergartners.
